Hello everybody and welcome to my
website. Here you will see a collection of all my
works.
50 plus years behind the camera as well as many years in the darkroom have given me insight into the world of reflected light and discovery
Today I'm pushing 60 and I have
been taking photos since I was 10. I had a darkroom when I
was 14 and went through the school of modren photography for 3
years after high school. I started using my mom's leica and
my dad's roleiflex as well as a Speed Graphics 4x5. I went
into the Pentax world for many years and have recently (10 years
ago ) transitioned to the digital era.
Here are some places I have been while on vacation. I love
vacations because they allow me to see foreign things that inspire
pictures or art.
Here is a list of the places I have been and some photos from
those trips.
I have a host of artists who I will
be adding as I go. From Native
American art to metal sculpture and
oils I will bring a diverse cross section
of several mediums to life and make
them available to the viewers of this
site.
A little about myself: Chris
Brooke: I grew up in the horse world
training and showing Arabians with
my mom, Stoney Brooke. We traveled a
lot and the costume class took me
into the Native American world. I
wasn’t going to wear all of the
silks and sequins of the Bedouins for the
costume class so I decided that the
next greatest horsemen had to be the
American Indian. There was a
shop in the San Fernando Valley “The Buffalo
Robe” who did authentic apparel for
the movie industry. We crafted an
ermine buffalo headdress and I wore
a breech clout along with some old Sioux
bead-work and moccasins. I
used baby oil and Iodine on my skin and flash
I was an Indian. They
also had a club called the Woodcraft Rangers
and our teachers were of Native
ancestry. We learned survival and camping
skills but more importantly we
participated in Native American Pow Wows or
Witayapis where I gained a great
appreciation for their art and dance
skills. If you have ever
witnessed the hoop dance or the fancy dancing
you know what I mean. I was
always taking photos and had a dark room at a
young age to develop my eye for
light and subject matter. Unfortunately a
wildfire came through my place and I
lost all of my archives pre...1982.
Since then I have been racing
Motocross out west and Downhill mountain bikes
out west and Canada taking photos
every chance I could. In 1990 I bought
some land at the west end of the
Grand Canyon and have been awestruck by the
photo ops the AZ desert
provides. When I first heard the thunder at the
Grand Canyon West it was easy to
understand why the big Eagle like coloration's
emblazoned into the cliffs near the
canyon’s end was called the Thunderbird.
I hope you’ll enjoy the photos
as much as I did acquiring
them.
